Asbestos Services
Asbestos Inspections - bulk suspect asbestos-containing materials are collected to submit to the laboratory to identify whether the suspect materials contain asbestos as defined by federal regulations. Abatement Monitoring - monitoring the process of asbestos removal (abatement) ensuring the work is conducted in accordance with OSHA and EPA standards. Asbestos Management Plans - once the presence of asbestos is determined and abatement is not a current option , an asbestos management plan is developed to outline procedures to control and limit exposures to airborne asbestos. Star Environmental Services has asbestos inspectors licensed in Virginia to assist clients with any testing or consulting needs with regards to asbestos. If asbestos is found during an investigation, Star Environmental Services can provide the consulting and management plan consulting services required to assist the client in appropriately and cost effectively addressing the situation. |
Lead-based Paint Services
Lead-based Paint Inspections - non-destructive testing of interior & exterior painted or coated building components to determine the presence and quantity of lead-based paint. Water/soil testing - the collection of soil and/or water samples to test for lead levels. Lead Hazard or Risk Assessments - after determining the presence of lead-based paint, dust wipe and soil samples are collected to determine the amount of lead present and whether the laboratory results show lead levels above or below federal standards and if so, provide recommendations for reducing lead hazards or risks. Abatement Monitoring - monitoring the process of lead-based paint removal (abatement) ensuring the work is conducted in accordance with OSHA, HUD, and EPA standards. Star Environmental Services has lead inspectors and risk assessors licensed in Virginia to assist clients with lead-based paint inspections, risk & hazard assessments, abatement monitoring and project design specifications. |
Indoor Air Quality & Mold Services
Chemical Contaminants - Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) Testing. VOCs are chemicals that easily enter the air as gases from solids or liquids. They are widely used in household and commercial products. Some cleansers, disinfectants, waxes, glues, cosmetics, dry cleaning products, paints, varnishes and preservatives include VOCs. Gasoline, kerosene and other fuels also contain VOCs. They are found in cigarette smoke, pesticides, new carpeting, backing and adhesives, draperies, wood products that use certain glues, finishes and waxes in the manufacturing process, vinyl flooring and wall coverings may all release VOCs into the air. Exposure to elevated levels of VOCs may cause irritation to the eyes, nose, and throat. Headaches, nausea, an increase in the risk of cancer and nerve problems can also occur. VOC levels can only be determined by testing. Testing for and measuring all VOCs that are present indoors is practically impossible as there are so many different compounds and testing varies greatly for different types of compounds. For example, benzene and toluene are measured by a different method than formaldehyde. Star Environmental Services will review possible sources of VOCs and their chemical compounds to determine a sampling and analysis plan. Mold Inspection and Testing in Structures and Crawl Spaces - A full site visual inspection, collection of cultured air and surface samples, and use of moisture measurement instrumentation to check for elevated moisture levels in building components by plumbing and if present, on water stained areas. A comprehensive report is developed detailing the findings, including laboratory analyses, an interpretation of the results, recommendations, and any pertinent photographs. Mold Remediation Protocols/Specifications Once it is determined there is a mold contamination, a site specific scope of work (protocol) is developed to address the proper methods of removing surface mold and reducing airborne mold within the structure and/or crawl space. Testing of any Substance or Chemical in which there is a Proven Methodology Star Environmental Services' staff will assist the client in determining the type of testing required for their specific situation and provide the appropriate methodology. The report will consist of the laboratory analysis results, an interpretation of the results, and recommendations with any necessary actions to address the situation should remediation be required. |
